Part-Time Race Timer
We are looking to add a part-time race timer to our staff for this upcoming racing season.
Rotpac Racing is a Michigan based timing company serving serving the Metro Detroit area for 20+ years. Services we provide include online registration, results, race chip timing, finish line arches and clocks, event photography and more.
A Race Timer is responsible for providing a best in class race experience for event directors and participants at events. The position is a part-time contractor position with working hours on Saturday and/or Sunday mornings mainly from March – October. Hours per month vary based on events scheduled. Some travel maybe be required. 90% of events will be in Michigan in the Metro Detroit Region.
Responsibilities (Paid Training Provided):
– On race day setting up timing equipment, arch, timing tent, race clock, etc. typically 2 hours prior to race start.
– Starting the race, processing chip data, and posting online results as the race is ongoing
– Assisting and training volunteers at the pre-race packet pickup
– Being knowledgeable in Timing Scoring Software – Race Director and/or RaceDay Scoring
– Being knowledgeable in Online Registration and Result platforms – RunSignUp
– Providing final results for awards
Qualifications
– Knowledge of races and involvement in the race event community such as running, cycling, nordic, triathlon, etc.
– Tech saavy. Will need to learn timing software, timing hardware, and basic computer networking as well as manage data and simple spreadsheets.
– Excellent interpersonal skills. This job is just as much customer service as it is producing results behind a computer. Unafraid to talk to new people and race directors.
– Ability to work well in a stressful work environment
– Works well independently and in a team environment
– Must be available to work weekends (Saturday & Sunday; 6am – 12pm)
– Ability to lift 50 pounds
– Ability to travel to events within a 2 hour radius of Metro Detroit
– Detailed oriented with a keen eye for results and erroneous data
The position will pay $30-$40 per hour and events typically take 4-5 hours from setup to tear down.
